College of Education

Hello everyone! My name is Sheree Harper, and I am a 3rd-year doctoral student in the Counselor Education & Supervision program in the Counseling Department. I am a first-generation college graduate, and I am a member of First Gen Niners Student Organization! I have held Graduate Assistant roles in the School of Social Work Department, CAPS, and Office of Academic Diversity and Inclusion. Originally from Chattanooga, TN (& grew up San Diego!), I received my B.S. in Child Development and Family Studies with a minor in Psychology from MTSU. I obtained my M.A. in School Counseling in 2013 right here at UNCC! In addition, completed my Grad Certificate in Play Therapy and began my Addictions Counseling Grad Certificate here at UNCC. I am a Spring ’22 recipient of the Boris L. Henson Foundation’s Mental Health Scholarship Fund/Kyle Pierre Johnson Scholarship.

As a NC Licensed School Counselor, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and National Certified Counselor, I have worked in the school, clinical, and college counseling settings collectively for over 9 years counseling and supporting diverse populations across the lifespan. I am serving as a Graduate Student Representative for Mu Tau Beta Chapter (Chi Sigma Iota International Honor Society). I am also a proud member of UNCC’s Urban School Counseling Collaborative, and many professional counseling organizations (ACA, NCCA, ASCA, NCSCA, & ACES). My research interests include Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)/trauma and child-centered play therapy, multicultural issues, social justice and advocacy, and Black mental health. I am thrilled to be a GLF! My goal is to strengthen connections with graduate students across academic disciplines and colleges and link them with the awesome resources and events CGLL offers! As a fellow graduate student, I am here to listen, understand, support, and uplift in any way I can! Please feel free to reach me at sharpe15@uncc.edu to connect!
