The CGLL serves UNC Charlotte’s graduate students from enrollment to commencement. We build community and promote holistic graduate student success through an evolving portfolio of in-person and online offerings, including workshops, fellowships, experiential learning opportunities, and credit-bearing courses. In collaboration with campus and external partners, we empower our students to tailor their personal and professional development for success in graduate school, the job search, and their early careers. We also advocate for the resources our graduate students need to thrive and contribute to the scholarship that is vital to Charlotte as an R1 institution.
We cultivate competence in six areas:
Empower grad students with crucial written and oral communication skills, for use in personal, professional, and academic life; and showcase strategies for finding reliable online sources and avoiding misinformation.
Cultivate a principled scholastic mindset, committed to exploring fresh ideas, continuous learning, and ethical use of AI and other developing digital tools, to flourish within complex academic ecosystems.
Advance scholarship with critical inquiry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and hands-on training that equips grad students to generate knowledge, publish with impact, and contribute solutions to pressing global issues.
Address both the classic challenges of pedagogy as well as modern complexities like virtual classrooms, so that grad students can step in front of a classroom with a suite of modern instructional techniques at their disposal.
Workshops, presentations, and classes help grads enrich their professional repertoire, learn how to lead others, develop intercultural fluency, and think differently and deeply about their workplace—wherever that may be.
Address mental health and work/life balance and become an oasis of calm in which grad students can recoup, center themselves, and garner strategies that will serve them well through grad life and beyond.
