Shailesh Kumar is a Computer Science graduate student at UNC Charlotte with a concentration in data science and a passion for building community through storytelling, analytics, and cross-cultural collaboration. As the Global Niner at the Center for Graduate Life & Learning (CGLL), he is dedicated to enhancing the international graduate student experience through inclusive programming, cultural engagement, and peer mentorship.
With a background in both tech and entrepreneurship, Shailesh has worn many hats—startup founder, content analyst, communications assistant, and community builder. His work ranges from leading a startup to managing digital platforms and social media content for the College of Computing and Informatics. He thrives at the intersection of data and design, having developed dashboards, automated reporting systems, and interactive tools to simplify complex information.
A first-year Global Niner, Shailesh is especially passionate about helping students navigate transitions—from moving countries to shifting career paths. His experience includes removing harmful online content, optimizing team workflows, and mentoring peers.
Originally from India, Shailesh now calls Charlotte home. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring AI Agents, walking around the campus with loved ones, and cooking Indian food. As part of the CGLL, he’s eager to continue building a welcoming and empowering environment for graduate students from all walks of life.
