3MT Registration Deadline

Can you describe your research to a lay audience in only three minutes with just one static slide? The 3 Minute Thesis Competition is the opportunity to try! Register to compete to win up to $500!

Background

Originating at the University of Queensland, Australia, the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a professional international research communication competition, that celebrates the discoveries made by graduate student researchers while helping students develop important academic, presentation, and research communication skills. Participants are challenged to clearly and engagingly communicate their research to a non-specialist audience in just 3 minutes with one, static, slide.

Registration

The deadline to register for the fall 2020 3MT competition is October 30.

Once students register, they will receive instructions to submit their videos and slide by November 6 at 5:00 pm.

Prizes

The 1st place winner will receive $500 and will represent UNC Charlotte at the Conference of Southern Graduate School’s (CSGS) Annual Meeting, which will be held virtually on November 13.

2nd place will receive $300, and 3rd place will receive $200. There will also be a People’s Choice Winner, selected by the audience.

Submission

Due to limitations on university gatherings, the preliminary round of the 2020 3MT competition will not take place in-person. Instead, participants will submit a recording of their presentation, along with their slide, to the Center for Graduate Life. The deadline for submissions is November 6 at 5:00 pm. The finalists will be chosen from the submissions, and the 2020 3MT Final Round will be held virtually on Friday, November 13.

Eligibility

Eligible participants must be enrolled in a Masters or Doctoral level program and must have relevant research to present.
